Meet the Site Managers

Cynthia Saunders ~ Auburn Elementary Site ManagerCynthia-Auburn

I am a native of Floyd County having graduated from Floyd County High School and Radford University.
I began my Adventure Club career as a teacher at the Indian Valley site.  A year and half later I was moved to the Riner Elementary site and I have been in the Riner area since. The 2015-2016 school year marks my 25th year with the Adventure Club program, 24 of which I have served as a Site Manager.

I am a sports fanatic; I enjoy college basketball, baseball and football: cheering for NC State and the University of Virginia teams.  I root loudly and proudly for the Washington Redskins and the Cincinnati Reds.  There is nothing like attending a sporting event up close and personally.  I have been very fortunate to cheer on my teams in many different arenas. I also enjoy watching and following former TAC kiddos excel in academia and in sports.

My hobbies are gardening, Relay for Life and reading.  I always have a book with me and two of my favorite places are libraries and any bookstore. I take great pride in keeping up with the many children and their families that I have had the pleasure of watching grow throughout the years, many of whom have returned to The Adventure Club as co-workers or to enroll their own children in the program. The Adventure Club IS a GREAT place for kids!

A Note from The Adventure Club:

Cynthia is the ruler by which we measure all other employees.  She has a wonderful, playful way of speaking with children while still earning their respect, she is reliable, upbeat, well spoken, and any other positive adjective you could think of. She treats everyday by seeing what opportunities lie ahead. In addition to being a wonderful Site Manager, Cynthia is also responsible for ordering the snacks for all of our kiddos and for handling all of the licensing paperwork for the whole company. We are proud to have Cynthia on our team and are looking forward to another twenty five years together!

Katie Smith ~ Belview Elementary Site ManagerKatieSmith

Hello! My name is Katie Smith, and I’m so excited to be working with your children this year. I have been working for The Adventure Club since October 2012, so this will be my 5th school year. I was previously located at Falling Branch Elementary.

I am a junior at Radford University majoring in Elementary Education. I am so passionate about children and their learning. I have known that I wanted to be an elementary school teacher since I was in kindergarten. My kindergarten teacher made me fall in love with learning and teaching and is the reason I am working with kids today.

Things I enjoy doing in my free time includes reading, baking, and crafting.

Mae Gibson ~ Christiansburg Primary Site ManagerMae-CPS

To introduce myself: I am from this area and have lived here all my life!  My home, school, and children are all here with me. My background is in Early Childhood Education.

I started my career with the Head Start Program in 1980 and moved on in 1996 to join a Pre-K Program at NRV Blacksburg Adventure Club Childcare Center.  I also had the privilege of being a Program Director there. I continued Pre-K for one year with The Adventure Club.  Then, I was promoted to Christiansburg Primary School to join the before and after school program as a Site Manager!

I have enjoyed the children and families I have gotten to know.  I feel so blessed to work with such nice people.

A Note from The Adventure Club:

There is a genuine feeling of relief when Mae walks into a room.  She has a warm, strong presence that the children can feel.  On many occasions we have seen huge groups of children flock to her side. She keeps the children at number one on her priority list, and it shows.  We are thrilled to have her influence the lives of so many children, yet again, at our Christiansburg Primary School Site, with the largest numbers of children at all of our six schools!

Amanda Moniz ~ Eastern Montgomery Site Manager

I was born and raised in a small country hamlet in Upstate New York. I enjoyed spending time at the horse farm with my horse, hiking, taking my dog for walks, and having family BBQ’s in the summer time. The last 3-1/2 years I have lived and worked in South Florida. In Florida, I enjoyed relaxing on the beach with a good book, playing tennis, and going for walks. I recently moved to the Christiansburg area and am excited to be back up in the mountain air and cannot wait to explore all the hiking spots around.

While living in Florida, I became a Florida State Certified teacher and taught within the school districts Head Start program with children from infants to 5 years old. I also have my Associates in Early Childhood Education and my Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Development; I am always looking to further my education and knowledge of children and their growth and development.

I enjoy working with children because they are so full of life and happiness and it rubs off on everyone around. Seeing the smiles on their faces when they are learning new things is one of the best, and I love to be the one to help put the smile there. I am looking forward to my new adventure working at The Adventure Club.

Cheyenne Davis-Dunn ~ Falling Branch Elementary Site Manager

Hello, my name is Cheyenne and I’m beyond excited and blessed to be working with your children this school year. I have been working for The Adventure Club for about a year now, and I couldn’t be happier. I started out working mornings only, and then last school year I started working at the Falling Branch location mornings and afternoons.

I am a junior at Radford University, majoring in Elementary Education, and my concentrations are Special Education and Science. I love teaching children new things an getting them excited about what they are doing and learning. I have been working with kids for as long as I can remember and suddenly last year when I started at Radford I thought, “Maybe I need to pursue a career in teaching.” It’s then that I started my education to pursue this career in teaching, and helping your children before and after school along the way.

In my free time I enjoy reading, cooking, crafting, and painting. I’m so excited to be working with the families I already know, and welcoming new families to our Falling Branch Adventure Club family this year.

Morgan Harrison ~ Kipps Elementary Site Manager

My name is Morgan, and I moved from Richmond, Virginia to Blacksburg to attend Virginia Tech for Fall of 2014. I am a recent graduate, earning a Bachelor’s in Science, majoring in Human Development. I started working at The Adventure Club as a volunteer for their summer camp and realized that I was not ready to leave! I decided that the best way for me to be able to continue with TAC was by joining the before and after school program team as a site manager at Kipps Elementary!

Prior to TAC, I was a volunteer assistant teacher for a Montessori school program. With this experience, it has not only taught me how to fully communicate and understand each child, but to help the child understand their own thoughts, emotions, and the environment that they are in. My goal at TAC is to show consistency and understanding each day for every child waking in and out of TAC’s door.
